At 11:22 a.m., officers responded to a hold-up alarm at the TD Bank at 995 Morris Ave, Union Township police said. An investigation revealed Kevin Thompson motioned to a bank teller as if he had a gun while stating it was a robbery and made off with $500, police said.
Thompson took the money and then fled in a car towards Hillside, police said. A quick-thinking bank employee got the license plate of the car and gave it to the officers, police said.
Police were able to use that to identify Thompson as the bank robber and found his parked car in Newark, officers said. Thompson was seen coming out of an apartment and arrested, police said.
Thompson gave an address in Hackettstown, but he appears to be homeless, police said. At police headquarters, Thompson confessed to the robbery, officers said.
He was charged with armed robbery and was taken to the Union County Jail, police said.
